Policy

The intent of the Faculty Code of Conduct is to protect academic freedom, to help preserve the highest standards of teaching and scholarship, and to advance the mission of the University as an institution of higher learning.

Part I of this Code sets forth the responsibility of the University to maintain conditions and rights supportive of the faculty’s pursuit of the University’s central functions.

Part II of this Code elaborates standards of professional conduct, derived from general professional consensus about the existence of certain precepts as basic to acceptable faculty behavior.

Part III of this Code deals with the enforcement process applicable to unacceptable faculty behavior.

The University policy on faculty conduct and the administration of discipline is set forth in its entirety in this policy and in The Faculty Code of Conduct. This Policy describes types of disciplinary sanctions.

This policy addresses the University of California’s responsibilities and procedures related to Prohibited Conduct in order to ensure an equitable and inclusive environment free of sexual violence and sexual harassment. This policy applies to all University employees as well as undergraduate, graduate and professional students.

Reporting
Any person may make a report, including anonymously, of Prohibited Conduct to the Title IX Officer in the Office for the Prevention of Harassment and Discrimination (OPHD), or to another appropriate office such as Academic Personnel Services (APS), Student Affairs, Office of the Vice Chancellor for Health Sciences or Health Sciences Human Resources.

While there is no time limit for reporting, reports of Prohibited Conduct should be brought forward as soon as possible.

• Violates University policy
• Violates a State or Federal law or regulation, such as: corruption, malfeasance, bribery, the or misuse of government property, fraud, coercion, conversion, wastes money, or involves gross misconduct, gross incompetence, or gross inefficiency.

• Or to your Supervisor, Audit & Management Advisory Services (AMAS), Health Human Resources
• With as much specific factual information as possible (report what you know, but don’t investigate—leave that to the experts!)
  
• Anonymously, if preferred

This policy describes the expected professional behavior and citizenship of Practitioners, defines types of disruptive behavior that may initiate corrective action, and describes the procedure to be followed when Practitioners display disruptive behavior within the Medical Center.

This Policy defines UC San Diego Health’s Workplace Violence Prevention Program and is designed to recognize and prevent workplace violence. This Program is a comprehensive attempt to prevent physical harm and, through education, emotional distress. This Program relies on every employee participating in the reporting of workplace incidents, see related policies for event reporting.

This Policy describes the expected behavior and citizenship standards for all Staff and Physicians at UC San Diego Health and includes all physicians-in-training, nurses, pharmacists, therapists, technologists, and other licensed professionals. The Policy also defines types of disruptive behavior, intimidating or other inappropriate behavior.
