Anabel Flores, PhD
Assistant Professor
California Baptist University

​Dr. Anabel Flores received her BS in Biology and BA in Spanish from California Baptist University and her PhD in Cell and Molecular Biology from the University of Michigan. Prior to graduate school, she participated in the NIH Postbaccalaureate Program at Wake Forest University. As an IRACDA Fellow from 2020-2021, she did postdoctoral research in the laboratory of Dr. Joan Heller Brown and Dr. Victor Nizet. She joined the Department of Biological Sciences at her alma mater California Baptist University in 2021, where her lab seeks to gain insight in host pathogen interactions using bacterial strains and macrophages. The most impactful part of the IRACDA program for Dr. Flores was meeting, learning from, and being mentored by Dr. Nizet as well as having a network of IRACDA fellows that extended beyond postdoctoral training.


Danielle Schmitt, PhD
Assistant Professor
University of California, Los Angeles​

​Dr. Danielle L. Schmitt received her BS in Chemistry from Ball State University and her PhD in Chemistry and Biochemistry from University of Maryland Baltimore County. Dr. Schmitt did her postdoctoral work at University of California San Diego with Dr. Jin Zhang where she was a University of California President’s Postdoctoral Fellow from 2019-2021 and an IRACDA fellow from 2020-2022. She joined the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry at University of California Los Angeles in 2022. The Schmitt Lab seeks to understand how cellular metabolism is regulated in a compartmentalized manner and how this is perturbed in disease. The most impactful parts of the IRACDA program for Dr. Schmitt were peer learning groups and professional development opportunities made available to fellows.
