    The Department of Ophthalmology is the only academic eye center in the San Diego region with comprehensive programs for the clinical care of patients with eye disorders, leading edge research on surgical techniques and treatments of eye diseases, education in the field of ophthalmology and innovative outreach to the community.

  • Otolaryngology


    The Department of Otolaryngology provides services and specialized training in a variety of specialties, including otology and neurotology-skull base surgery, general otolaryngology, head and neck surgical oncology, thyroid and parathyroid surgery, microvascular reconstruction, facial plastic & reconstructive surgery, facial nerve reconstruction, facial trauma, rhinology & anterior skull base, laryngology, sleep surgery and pediatric otolaryngology.
  • Pathology


    The Department of Pathology includes four divisions and is responsible for almost all diagnostic tests that involve analysis of tissue specimens, blood samples, and other body fluids. Pathology laboratories conduct the genome sequencing studies that support patient care. Additionally the department we oversees blood transfusions and bone marrow transplantations.

  • Pediatrics


    The Department of Pediatrics is the second largest department within the School of Medicine, comprised of 16 Divisions, with approximately 200 faculty, 54 residents, 3 chief residents, 80 post-doctoral fellows (MDs/PhDs), and approximately 300 staff employees. Services are housed at a variety of locations, including Rady Children’s Hospital , UC San Diego School of Medicine campus, Jacobs Medical Center,  or the UC San Diego Medical Center  in Hillcrest.

  • Pharmacology


    The Department of Pharmacology advances knowledge through research and education in pharmacology, a scientific discipline that explores how chemicals and therapeutic agents affect biological systems. Pharmacology bridges chemistry, molecular and cellular biology, and human disease. The goal is to find better therapeutic interventions to treat diseases, as single agents or as part of multimodal precision therapies.

    The Department of Psychiatry is a diverse community dedicated to enhancing mental wellness and bettering the lives of people with mental illness through basic, clinical, and translational research.

  • Radiation Medicine

    Radiation Medicine

    Founded in 2006, the Department of Radiation Medicine and Applied Science is committed to a  bipartite mission including Clinical Medicine and Academic Research. The multidisciplinary team includes radiation oncologists, medical physicists, radiation therapists, nurses, dosimetrists, and researchers dedicated to advancing patient care and pushing the frontier of clinical medicine.

    The Department of Radiology supports the tripartite mission of UC San Diego School of Medicine by providing patient-first imaging-based care, training tomorrow's radiology leaders and discovering and establishing novel solutions at the intersection of health care, science and technology. The department’s eight divisions include 116 faculty and 155 staff who collaborate to lead the way in the delivery of exceptional science, academic leadership and transformative patient experiences.
