The medical school journey is a challenging and exciting time for our students and their supporters. Each year, the School of Medicine celebrates important milestones and achievements through a variety of annual events. We recognize the importance of taking a pause to reflect and commemorate each new step.

Orientation

Orientation Week is a time for students to familiarize themselves with the campus, staff and fellow students. A variety of hands-on activities, lectures and social events take place throughout the School of Medicine campus and community.

White Coat Ceremony

The White Coat ceremony is an annual tradition that marks the beginning of the medical education journey for  future physicians. It's a time for family, friends and supporters to come together in support and celebration of this new path.

Rainbow Pin Ceremony

The Rainbow Pin Ceremony is an annual event sponsored by LGBTQ+ PhaM. This lunchtime event features a presentation on key healthcare disparities facing the LGBTQ+ community and time for open-ended discussion with featured panelists.

Día de los Muertos

The Latino Medical Student Association hosts an annual event to recognize this traditional Mexican celebration to remember the loved ones who are no longer with us and celebrate their lives.

Blanket Ceremony

We hold an annual blessing ceremony and blanket presentation for our first-year American Indian and Alaska Native medical students in partnership with the Kumeyaay Nation and UC San Diego Program in Medical Education – Transforming Indigenous Doctor Education (PRIME-TIDE).

One of the most important days for a medical student, Match Day is the day students find out where they will attend graduate medical training at residency programs across the country.
