White Coat Ceremony

About the Ceremony

Each year, we mark the beginning of the medical school journey with the presentation of white coats to each new member of the entering class. At the School of Medicine, we present the White Coat Ceremony in conjunction with the Gold Humanism Honor Society Induction Ceremony.

Linking the two ceremonies together provides an inspiring start to the academic year. In the White Coat Ceremony, the new class of medical students is welcomed into the medical community in the presence of family, friends, and faculty members. These entering students are fitted with their first white coats and take their first step towards the responsibility of the physician by reciting the Oath of Hippocrates.

In the Gold Humanism Honor Society Induction Ceremony, we honor selected senior medical students. These students have demonstrated exemplary behavior that promotes humanism in medicine, excellence in clinical care, leadership, compassion, and dedication to service.
