Students at UC San Diego School of Medicine care deeply about each other and their cultural competence. Students engage with one another and their communities through local chapters of national organizations committed to supporting and representing their cultures and identities. All groups are open to all students.
The Asian Pacific American Medical Student Association (APAMSA) is a national organization dedicated to advancing the healthcare needs of Asian Pacific Islander communities by fostering the development of physicians who are equipped to serve these populations. Our mission focuses on addressing the unique healthcare challenges and disparities faced by Asian Pacific Islander communities, while supporting the training and development of medical students and professionals who will serve these communities with cultural competence and dedication.
The UC San Diego School of Medicine APAMSA chapter is focused on three key areas: educational events, mentorship, and community outreach, all designed to prepare future physicians to better serve and advocate for the health and well-being of Asian Pacific Islander communities.
The Association of Native American Medical Students (ANAMS) is dedicated to cultivating a diverse and skilled healthcare workforce that is equipped to address the unique health needs of Native American communities. Our mission is centered on developing future physicians who are committed to improving health outcomes for Native American populations through culturally competent care and community engagement.
ANAMS has three primary goals:
ANAMS represents students passionate about advancing Native American health and collaborates with the Association of American Indian Physicians (AAIP). The association plays a vital role in preparing future doctors to serve Native American communities and address their healthcare needs effectively.
The UC San Diego School of Medicine Latino Medical Student Association (LMSA) chapter is focused on developing future physicians dedicated to improving health equity and access for Latino communities.
LMSA brings together students, alumni, and healthcare professionals to promote advocacy, policy development, and the advancement of healthcare services for Latino populations in San Diego. Through educational programs, community service, and networking opportunities, we work to recruit and support individuals in the healthcare profession who are dedicated to improving the access and delivery of care to Latino communities.
Mission Statement: LMSA is part of a regional and national network comprised of diverse and dedicated medical students.
We actively promote:
LGBTQ-PhaM is dedicated to advancing the health, well-being, and equity of LGBTQ+ communities through education, advocacy, and service. At the UC San Diego School of Medicine and Skaggs School of Pharmacy, we focus on creating opportunities to support LGBTQ+ individuals both within our institution and in the broader San Diego community. Our efforts are aimed at fostering a more inclusive healthcare environment where LGBTQ+ communities are represented, respected, and receive the care they deserve. Educational and outreach activities engage all medical and pharmacy students.
The Student National Medical Association (SNMA) is dedicated to supporting current and future medical students, promoting healthcare access, and fostering the development of clinically excellent, culturally competent, and socially conscious physicians. Our focus is on addressing healthcare disparities and advancing the overall well-being of diverse communities through education, advocacy, and service.
