Eligibility

A student must meet the following criteria:

1. Be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident
2. Come from a socio-economically disadvantaged background (a disadvantaged background includes coming from an environment that has inhibited the individual from obtaining the knowledge, skills, and abilities required to enroll in higher education or living in a household with an annual income at or below established low-income thresholds according to family size published by the U.S. Census Bureau), or be from a group that is underrepresented in the biomedical sciences (African-American, Hispanic, American Indian, Native American, U.S. Pacific Islander), or have a demonstrated disability, and maintain a 3.0 and above GPA.

Qualifications

Freshmen, sophomores, or transfers, with little or no research experience and demonstrable interest in pursuing research as a career.

Admission

Applications are first screened for eligibility by the MARC Program Directors and evaluated by the Admissions Committee. Students are then selected depending on the availability of positions.

Stipends (Phase 2 only)

Students can work in their mentor's laboratory for up to 15 hours per week during the academic period and 40 hours per week during non-academic periods (breaks, summer).
