Dr. Dan Scanderbeg is an Associate Professor and Associate Director in the Division of Medical Physics overseeing Brachytherapy and Regulatory Affairs at all our Treatment Centers.

A dedicated clinical physicist, he has considerable expertise and experience in the use of low-dose-rate (LDR) and high-dose-rate (HDR) brachytherapy covering a wide variety of tumor types and sites, including breast cancer, head & neck cancer, soft tissue sarcomas, gynecological cancers, ocular melanomas and prostate cancer. He works closely with radiation oncologists, ophthalmologists and others to design and deliver the optimal treatment for these patients, often requiring the fabrication of customized devices.

In addition to clinical work, Dr. Scanderbeg has research interests ranging from novel, custom brachytherapy treatments and devices, to deformable image registration and dose accumulation, 3D printing for medical applications, and educational methods and platforms. He also enjoys instructing residents and students as well as spending time on educational outreach. Dr. Scanderbeg has produced several instructional presentations and videos on brachytherapy treatment planning that are freely available and is working on curriculum with Radiating Hope to assist in developing programs in low and middle income countries. He serves on multiple committees at the University as well as with local, national and international organizations including the American Association of Physicists in Medicine (AAPM) where he serves on the Public Education Committee and the American Brachytherapy Society (ABS) where he serves on the Membership Committee and Physics Committee.
