Center for Translational Radiation Medicine and Imaging (CTRMI)

Director's Welcome

I am pleased to welcome you to the webpage for the Center for Translational Radiation Medicine and Imaging (CTRMI), the research arm of the UC San Diego Department of Radiation Medicine and Applied Sciences. The CTRMI is located within the Altman Clinical and Translational Research Institute (ACTRI), near Moores Cancer Center and Jacobs Medical Center. The CTRMI is home to a growing number of research physicians and physicists who focus on a wide variety of research areas, including the application of novel imaging modalities to treatment planning and delivery, health outcomes research, basic science, clinical trials and technology research. The CTRMI consists of 4,000 square feet of both wet and dry lab space in addition to state-of-the art small animal and human imaging capabilities. Our center is divided into individual faculty labs (see below).

Mission Statement

The Division of Clinical & Translational Research is dedicated to the development and scientific testing of novel methods and treatments to improve the care of cancer patients. Physician-scientists within our division have expertise in a variety of methods, ranging from bench laboratory sciences using in vitro and in vivo models, to translational sciences using early phase human subjects testing and in silicon models, to prospective clinical trials, population studies, and meta-analysis.

Research Programs

The Division of Clinical & Translational Research is under the directorship of Loren Mell MD. We have five principal subdivisions, with Associate Directors overseeing each.  They are: Radiation Biology (Directed by Sunil Advani MD), Imaging (Directed by Jona Hattandagi-Gluth MD), Outcomes Research (Directed by Jim Murphy MD), Clinical Trials (Directed by James Urbanic MD) and Medical Physics (Directed by Kevin Moore PhD). Each subdivision holds weekly lab meetings managed by the Associate Director.
