Dr. Ajay Sandhu is a Professor and Vice-Chair for Veteran Administration (VA) Affairs, overseeing the Department’s relationship with the San Diego VA Medical Center. He is also the Lung Cancer Section Chief as well as an active member of the GU Cancer Treatment Team.

An experienced and dedicated clinical, Dr. Sandhu is an expert in lung Stereotactic Body Radiotherapy (SBRT), a cutting-edge treatment approach in early stage primary lung cancers as well as in select metastatic tumors to the lung, He also has considerable experience treating prostate cancer and other GU tumor patients. He has been named a Top Doctor multiple times by the San Diego Magazine.

Dr. Sandhu is one of the original members of the Department and has served in many roles over the years including as Medical Director of the La Jolla Clinic. His many contributions to the Department have been recognized by his being named the inaugural RMAS Distinguished Senior Faculty member. He has published multiple outcome studies, focused on the treatment of patients with lung and prostate cancers. Dr. Sandhu has been recognized for his international outreach efforts in India and was awarded honorary Fellowship by Indian College of Radiation Oncology (FICRO). Dr. Sandhu also holds Diploma in Medical Radiotherapy and Oncology from the Royal College of Radiologists, London.
