Wellness Grant Program

Launched to promote the engagement of residents and fellows in wellness programming at UC San Diego Health, this program encourages residents or fellows to apply for funding to support the development and implementation of house staff well-being initiatives.

UC San Diego Physician Wellness

In order to support the needs of UC San Diego residents and fellows, the departments of Medicine and Psychiatry are offering expedited access to primary care and mental health appointments.

To schedule a primary care appointment, call 619-543-2229 between the hours of 8 a.m.–5 p.m.

The UC San Diego Physician Well-Being Committee promotes the wellness of UC San Diego Health's medical staff and house staff physicians by early intervention in cases of possible impairment and by facilitation of health-promoting practices.

WE CARE

The WE CARE Peer Support Program is here to support you in stressful or challenging situations. UC San Diego GME physicians can request confidential peer support sessions with trained UC San Diego physician peer supporters.

Mental Health Resources

HEAR Program

The Healer Education Assessment & Referral (HEAR) offers education, anonymous stress and depression screening, referral and support to all UC San Diego Health learners and workers. In addition, HEAR offers short-term, no-cost, confidential counseling for residents and fellows and individual “check-in” meetings with trainees and non-GME physicians.

Headspace

Effective June 2025, Headspace Care and Headspace have merged into one app: Headspace. UC San Diego Health GME physicians can now access guided meditation and mindfulness exercises, access to one-on-one mental health coaching (24/7) and clinical care all in one place.  

How to Sign Up

  1. To enroll, enter your last name and PlanSource Subscriber ID.
    • To find your Subscriber ID: Log in to PlanSource. Click on Profile > My Profile, then scroll to the bottom of the page. Your Subscriber ID will be listed under your Hire Date.
  1. Download the Headspace app: App Store| Google Play

Enrolling dependents

  • If you’ve already enrolled, log in, enter your family member’s email address and click Send.
  • If you’re in the app, tap the profile icon on the far right. Scroll down to Refer household members and tap Send Invites. Enter your dependents’ email addresses.

*Dependents ages 13–17 must be referred into care by their legal parent/guardian. A consent form must be signed before the teen can receive care.

LiveHealth Online

Discuss sensitive topics with a therapist in the privacy and comfort of your own home (or other private location), either through online video or by phone. You can also chat with psychiatrists through LiveHealth Online Psychology who can help you manage mental health medications that you’re taking.

Anthem Behavioral Health Resource Center

Available to UC San Diego trainees, this is a great way to access Mental Health resources and support to address a wide range of issues (e.g. anxiety, depression, substance use, eating disorders). Anthem experts will work with you at no extra cost to find treatment programs and arrange confidential counseling and support services that meet your individual and family needs. Available 24/7.

Fatigue Mitigation

UC San Diego offers trainees rideshare reimbursement for transportation home when you're too tired to drive. The official reimbursement policy is available on MedHub (login required) under Resources/Documents > Fatigue Mitigation Transportation.
