  • Ian Lau

    Ian Lau

Ian was born and raised in Southern California before attending Brown University, where he studied biochemistry and molecular biology. Personal family history with cancer led Ian to the medical field and ignited his interest in oncology. He has conducted a variety of research in this space, including understanding the tumor microenvironment, improving cancer surgical clinical outcomes, and enhancing quality of life for patients with cancer.

Along his journey, Ian has recognized the tremendous importance of humanistic patient care that tends to the whole person alongside treating the disease. UCSan Diego’s ethos of compassion makes it a positive, exciting environment in which to train. As part of the Tan Family Scholar Compassion in Medicine Academic Concentration (CIMAC), Ian will be at the forefront of discovering ways to enhance and practice compassion. He looks to use experience gained through CIMAC to shape a medical field where clinical excellence and compassion are the standard of medical care.
