We started the Make UR MARC Fellowship program in 2021 in order to promote underrepresented STEM students who are interested in research. Now we are excited to announce our first candidate to receive this fellowship!
Our 2021 Fellowship Awardee is Bliss Nelson.
Bliss is a third-year Cognitive and Behavioral Neuroscience Major at
UCSD. She was placed in the Leichtag Biomedical Research Building and
the Ginsberg Lab, her principal investigator is Dr. Miguel
Lopez-Ramirez. She is studying Cerebral Cavernous Malformations
(CCM), a common neurovascular disease. Specifically, she has been
researching the interaction between astrocytes and brain endothelial
cells in the context of CCM. Bliss' long-term plan includes applying for
an MD-PhD program to continue researching and one
day become a physician-scientist.
