About the SURF Program
This program is open to all undergraduate students who are interested in seeking future training in a combined M.D./Ph.D. program or an academically oriented career in medicine, with a strong focus on applicants from disadvantaged backgrounds and those who have contributed to equity, diversity, and inclusion.
SURF Program Features
- UC San Diego SURF is an 8-week summer research fellowship designed to provide undergraduate students with hands-on training in the labs of biomedical science faculty
- The program provides career development opportunities and clinical shadowing experiences aimed at equipping students with the skills and knowledge needed to evaluate and shape their future careers as Physician-Scientists (M.D./Ph.D.)
- Weekly seminars/workshops
- Presentation of your work at the Annual MSTP-SURF Research Symposium
- A stipend for the 8-week period
- Housing accommodations (not board) for the 8-week period
- Travel allowance for transportation to and from San Diego
