The Core Topics in Biomedical Sciences (CTBS) course is available to all
students accepted into the UC San Diego School of Medicine (SOM) or
Skaggs School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences (SSPPS) by June
15; students from educationally diverse backgrounds are particularly
encouraged to apply (e.g., students with majors outside of the
biological sciences or who have been away from full-time study for a
year or more). The CTBS course can ease the transition into the intense
first-year SOM curriculum for these and any other students who wish to
strengthen their background in the biomedical sciences (SSPPS students
are encouraged to attend prior to their second year).
Class size is limited. If more than 45 qualified students apply,
preference will be given to students with majors outside of the
biological sciences and to students who have not been enrolled in
full-time study for a year or more.
Students admitted to the CTBS course are charged a nominal registration
fee (less than $100). They are also responsible for their own housing,
board, and other expenses.
