Paul A. Insel, M.D. Endowed Lecture In Physician Scientist Training

About the Lectureship

An initiative to establish an endowed lectureship in honor of Dr. Paul A. Insel MD is underway, spearheaded by Dr. William Y. Go, PhD '04, MD '06. The goal is to raise $150,000 by December 31, 2023.*

The Paul A. Insel, MD Lectureship in Physician Scientist Training will honor Dr. Insel's incredible service, leadership and mentorship at UC San Diego. A Distinguished Professor Emeritus of Pharmacology and Medicine at UC San Diego, his research has focused on G-protein coupled receptors (GPCR's) and their signaling mechanisms and roles in health and disease. Mentorship is a skill and Dr. Insel has provided valuable knowledge and guidance for generations of UC San Diego undergraduates, medical students, graduate students and postdoctoral fellows. Since 1989, he has served as the Director of the UC San Diego Medical Scientist (MD/PhD) Training Program (MSTP).

The annual lectureship will bring biomedical specialists, as well as visiting faculty and consultants to the UC San Diego Department of Medicine Grand Rounds. A committee within the Department of Medicine will select and manage the lectureship.

The inaugural lectureship will be held on November 15, 2023.

*If the requirement of $150,000 to establish an endowed fund that will last in perpetuity is not met, the funding will be current use and be used to hold the lectureship until depleted.
