Yvette LaCoursiere Appointed Interim Associate Dean for Graduate Medical Education
The University of California San Diego School of Medicine recently appointed Yvette LaCoursiere, M.D., M.P.H, interim associate dean for graduate medical education (GME) and designated institutional officer (DIO).
LaCoursiere, professor and vice chair of clinical affairs in the Department of Obstetrics, Gynecology and Reproductive Sciences (OB/GYN), is a renowned physician and academic leader with a distinguished career spanning more than two decades. She is respected across the institution for her demonstrated commitment to academic excellence, innovative research and exceptional patient care.
She joined the School of Medicine faculty in 2008 as an assistant professor and has since held various leadership positions in her department, including program director of the OB/GYN residency program, vice chair of education and most recently, vice chair of clinical affairs. Recognized for her commitment to education and mentorship, LaCoursiere has received several teaching awards, including the Kaiser Permanente Excellence in Teaching Award, the Leonard Tow Humanism in Medicine Award and the Office of Health Sciences Faculty Affairs Excellence in Faculty Mentoring Award.
LaCoursiere's research focuses on maternal health, obesity and bladder health. She has published more than 60 peer-reviewed articles and has presented numerous abstracts at national and international conferences. She is an active member of several professional organizations, including the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists, Society for Academic Specialists in General Obstetrics and Gynecology and the Association of Professors of Obstetrics & Gynecology. She completed an undergraduate degree, medical degree and residency at UC San Diego and completed a master’s in public health at San Diego State University and the Women’s Reproductive Health Research Program at the University of Utah.
In her new role, LaCoursiere will work alongside Daniel Lee, M.D., assistant dean and Charlie Goldberg, M.D., interim assistant dean to oversee GME accreditation, quality improvement initiatives and wellness programs. She will also be the primary liaison with the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education and lead institutional efforts in compliance and accreditation to support our GME programs’ success.
