The Association of American Medical Colleges (AAMC) Group on Institutional Advancement (GIA) recently announced the recipients of the 2025 GIA Awards for Excellence competition. The University of California San Diego School of Medicine’s communications team received national recognition for their work on More Than a Haircut feature story, which won a Gold Award for Excellence in Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Initiatives. The story was also nominated as one of seven finalists for the distinct honor of Best in Show in the 2025 GIA Awards for Excellence Competition.
This year’s judging panel felt the entry exemplified the highest level of professionalism and achievement within the academic medicine community.
The GIA Awards for Excellence is an annual, peer-reviewed competition that recognizes outstanding work by members of the GIA and their colleagues. The awards honor the most creative and effective approaches used to promote academic medicine through alumni relations, communications, development, marketing, and public affairs programs and projects. Additional details about the 2025 GIA Awards for Excellence recipients can be found here.
This year, volunteer judges from AAMC member institutions selected 55 exemplary entries for honorable mention, bronze, silver, and gold recognition. Winners are chosen for overall quality, innovation, comprehensive strategy, goal achievement, use of resources, and the impact on the institution and/or its communities.
