Sunil Advani MD, Associate Professor and Director of Basic Science Research in the Center for Precision Radiation Medicine (CPRM), has been awarded tenure by UC San Diego, in recognition of his academic accomplishments. Sunil was the 1st basic scientist recruited by our Department and is the third faculty member to receive tenure in our Department’s history. Sunil has received multiple research grants over the years, including a recent R37 MERIT (Method to Extend Research in Time) Award.

Sunil Advani MD, Associate Professor and Director of Basic Science Research in the Center for Precision Radiation Medicine (CPRM), has been awarded a R37 MERIT (Method to Extend Research in Time) Award. The R37 MERIT Award provides early stage investigators with extended grant funding, extending the 5 years of funding of his recent R01 focused on PAK-CRAF signaling to 7 years! An exciting thing is that one doesn’t apply for a MERIT Award. Instead, the NIH looks over highly scored early stage investigator R-01’s and selects a few for extended funding. It is an incredible honor and achievement!
