UCSD Global Health Program (GHP)

Degrees in Global Health

Since Fall 2014, the Global Health Program (GHP) includes a Bachelor of Arts in Global Health (BAGH) and incorporates the currently existing Global Health Minor (GHM). The program is the first of its kind within the University of California system and one of only a handful in North America where students can gain a comprehensive initiation to the exciting and rapidly growing field of Global Health. The GHP is student-centered and emphasizes a balance between critical thinking and real world experience. Offering a comprehensive initiation into the exciting and rapidly growing field of Global Health, the interdisciplinary degree aids in the understanding and productively intervening in processes of health, illness, and healing across the globe.

Undergraduate degrees in the Global Health Program Bachelor of Arts and Minor provide students with an in‐depth understanding of factors related to illness, health, and healing from a comparative and interdisciplinary perspective that transcends national borders and regional interests and takes cultural difference and diversity fully into account.

An important feature of the program is a Global Health Field Experience at a research, service, or clinical site either in the United States or abroad, which for majors culminates in a capstone seminar and senior thesis.

The GHP also sponsors a range of events, from the critical dialogues of the Quarterly Conversations in Global Health to the annual Global Health Field Experience Expo and Horizons of Global Health Research Symposium, a vast culmination of the year's global health work.
