A message from the Vice Chancellor for Health Sciences

The UC San Diego (UCSD) Health Sciences’ Code of Conduct is an important part of the UCSD Health Sciences Compliance Program. Its purpose is to bring together information on the Health Science's standards for ethical and legal conduct.

UCSD Health Science's Compliance Program is all about making "right choices." UCSD Health Sciences has a tradition of making right choices, and I am proud of the hard work employees of UCSD Health Sciences are putting into ensuring this tradition. So why is a Code of Conduct necessary? Let me mention just a few of the reasons. First, it is important we continue to demonstrate to ourselves and those outside of our organization that we are serious about making right choices. Secondly, as the rules governing our business become increasingly complex, making right choices is not always easy. The Code of Conduct is another tool to help anyone in our organization make proper and ethical decisions.

Lastly, policies contained in the Code of Conduct reflect values of our organization. We should not lose sight of these values, and we must continue to support one another in upholding them. Our ability to further our mission depends on it.

Thank you for your ongoing support of UCSD's mission, its values and its commitment to making right choices. Working together, we will continue to build upon UCSD's position as a leader in teaching, research, patient care, and community service.

David A. Brenner, M.D.
