The Health Sciences Sponsored Project Pre-award Office prides itself on providing complete and timely proposal review services to our PIs. To assist us in this mission, the HS SPPO Office requests your support by providing us with all proposals and supporting proposal documentation 14 business days prior to the posted agency deadline. While the HS SPPO Office prefers 14 full business days to review your proposal, there are final receipt deadlines by which we must have them to ensure timely submission. The timeline below provides information on those days.
Exception: Multi-Project Grants require twenty (20) business days to review.
Please note: when a
standard
NIH submission date falls on a weekend or a
Federal Holiday, the application deadline is automatically extended to the next business day. Moreover, please note, in order to receive a
Final Review you must have the final application ready for submission no later than 7:59 AM on the day it is due. During a
Final Review, HS SPPO will only re-review any suggested corrections from the previous review. If the final application package is ready to submit on or after 8:00 AM, then it will be submitted as is, with no
Final Review. *Note, if received for the first time less than 6 hours prior to the deadline, (after 10:30 am on the day of the deadline) there is NO GUARANTEE the application will be submitted to the sponsor.

In a
notice published in December 2020, the Vice-Chancellor of Research established a timeliness policy for routing sponsored research proposals to the campus Sponsored Project Offices (SPO). The policy is established to a) ensure researchers have the best chance of having their research projects funded, b) be compliant with ever-changing regulations, and c) have the best opportunity to identify inaccuracies or errors that can be fixed before being reviewed by funding agencies. To achieve these goals, the following timelines have been established:
The Vice-Chancellors for Health Sciences, Academic Affairs, Marine Sciences, and Research, and the Executive Vice Chancellor Academic Affairs have endorsed these timelines, and are committed to monitoring progress toward compliance through a real-time dashboard:
