This training program, for all Health Sciences faculty leadership, is to address appropriate behavior in the academic environment based on UC policy. In order to help faculty leaders recognize these behaviors in the workplace and learn how to intervene early and effectively, the Health Sciences Office of Faculty Affairs has developed a lively, engaging, interactive 3.5 hour workshop titled Cultivating a Culture of Respect in the Academic Environment. This training is a collaborative effort between the Office of Faculty Affairs with the Physician Assessment and Clinical Education Program (PACE) and Office for the Prevention of Harassment and Discrimination (OPHD). “Culture of Respect” is supported by the Chancellor and Office of Equity, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI).

As leaders at UC San Diego Health Sciences, it is our responsibility to protect our learners and employees and ensure that they learn and work in an environment that is conducive to the pursuit of excellence, and is therefore free of harassment, violence, and discrimination.
Each member of our community is responsible to intervene when such violations take place, but as leaders, we hold the ultimate responsibility. Sexual harassment, intimidation, discrimination, and the threat of violence cost millions in turnover, litigation, and ultimately the failure to fulfill our mission. Conduct of this kind violates the core values of UC San Diego Health. We must be sure that the actions of each member of our community embody our core values.
