At UC San Diego Health, the credentialing and privileging process involves a series of activities designed to collect, verify, and evaluate data relevant to a medical practitioner’s professional performance. These metrics are then used as objective evidence when deciding to approve appointment to membership as UC San Diego Health Medical Staff or Allied Health Professional Staff for initial and renewed privileges. In the course of credentialing and privileging process, an overview of each applicant’s licensure, education, current competence, and physical ability to perform patient care responsibilities is established. Our credentialing process is also integrated with UC San Diego Medical Group Managed Care; providers that join our medical group will not be required to undergo an additional credentialing process to become a contracted provider with our health plan networks. However, they may still have to complete other documents required by our billing department, CMS or other government payers.
Please contact the UC San Diego Medical Staff Administration with any questions regarding the credentialing or billing processes. Additionally, please click here to visit their website for additional information regarding their services.
