Dr. Linda Hill, UC San Diego Injury Epidemiology Prevention and Research Center and School of Medicine was a guest speaker at The Senior Driver Expo 2011, a new pilot program to address senior mobility issues and how to continue driving as long as safely possible.
At the exposition, Dr. Hill was interviewed by Maureen Cavanaugh, KPBS Midday Edition Host, which is featured in the KPBS online news article "Program Aims To Keep Seniors Safely Behind The Wheel."
Nearly thirty agencies came together at the event, hosted by the Auto Club of Southern California, to provide resources, health screenings, and educational information to over 600 older drivers and their families. Interactive activities included under the hood maintenance and basic auto repair tips, and demonstrations of adaptive devices and adjustments that can be made to help increase driving visibility, and maximize the built in vehicle safety features.
Raffles, food, and pictures and autographs with Huell Howser, television commentator and author, created a festive atmosphere. The event proved to be very successful with 99% of attendees stating they would recommend this event to other senior drivers and family.
