The Division of Trauma, Surgical Critical Care, Burns and Acute Care Surgery was designed to respond to any emergency calls 24/7 with fully equipped state-of-the art trauma bays. Whether a trauma or a burn victim, they will be seen by a multidisciplinary team of specialists including trauma surgeons, trauma nurses, neurosurgeons, orthopedic surgeons, plastic surgeons and spine specialists. Our mission is to save lives and send them back to their families.


In the News

Elliot Williams, MD was awarded the 2018-2019 Surgical Infection Society Resident Basic Science Research Training Fellowship. This funding will support his project studying the role of gut-derived exosomes in mediating the inflammatory response to injury. Dr. Williams is a PGY-4 General Surgery Resident at UC San Diego spending 2 years of research training under the mentorship of Drs. Costantini, Eliceiri and Baird.


UC San Diego Health received another full reverification as a Level I trauma center for the maximum period of 3 years after a successful site visit by the American College of Surgeons Verification Review Committee and the County of San Diego.
