About Us

The UC San Diego Pediatric Surgery is dedicated to providing excellent surgical care for infants, children, and adolescents. children and young people. Our surgeons are committed to treating a variety of conditions from diseases or injuries to congenital disorders. As board-certified in both surgery and pediatric surgery, we are trained to perform complex and specialized procedures including chest and abdominal surgery, cancer surgery, and transplants in children and young adults.

As academic surgeons from a top medical research center, we bring the latest advances in medical knowledge when we come to the operating room. Our surgeons are highly respected researchers who are working to develop better ways of understanding, diagnosing and treating the health problems that affect children.

Q&A with David Lazar

dr. david lazarDr. David Lazar is a pediatric surgeon and assistant professor of surgery at UC San Diego. A graduate of UCSD’s general surgery residency program, he specializes in prenatal counseling and intervention; caring for children with thoracic and abdominal congenital anomalies; and extracorporeal membrane oxygenation. In this interview, he talks about what it’s like to work with kids—and parents; shares new goings-on in the Division of Pediatric Surgery; and recounts the time he played black jack with former Department chair, Dr. A.R. Moossa.
