The Department of Radiology at University of California San Diego is offering a one-year fellowship in cardiothoracic radiology. This position provides comprehensive training in cardiothoracic imaging as well as exposure to a wide array of imaging studies generated by three hospitals: UC San Diego Medical Center Hillcrest (a designated Level I trauma center), UC San Diego Medical Center, Thornton Pavilion, Sulpizio Cardiovascular Center, and VA San Diego Health Care System.
UC San Diego boasts highly active cardiac and pulmonary transplant services, along with the world's busiest center for chronic pulmonary thromboendarterectomy surgery. Equipment includes PACS, digital and computed radiography, 6 multi-slice CT scanners including a 320 slice scanner, PET-CT imaging, and multiple state-of-the-art 3T MR scanners. Access to 3T and 7T magnets is available through collaboration with the
UC San Diego Center for Functional MRI (CFMRI).
The faculty comprises five dedicated cardiothoracic radiologists pursuing interests in all aspects of thoracic imaging and cardiac imaging in close collaboration with cardiology colleagues. With dedicated academic time, fellows will be encouraged to participate in ongoing research, including interdisciplinary research in cardiac CT and MR as well as functional pulmonary imaging. A large and varied patient population assures a wealth of clinical experience and exposure to a full spectrum of clinical pathology. Training includes daily interaction with the pulmonary, oncology, infectious disease, cardiology, and cardiothoracic surgery services.
