Dr. Meyers Awarded 2-year, $200k research grant by Varian Medical Systems

The grant will seek to integrate automated planning into the treatment planning system and will include evaluation of automated plans by physicians from multiple institutions.

Drs. Mayadev and Meyers give Seminar on Cervical Cancer

Drs. Mayadev and Meyers presented in Varian's Spotlighting Women in Radiation Oncology seminar series to over 350 attendees world-wide. Dr. Meyers spoke about knowledge-based automation in cervical brachytherapy, while Dr. Mayadev discussed novel treatment paradigms for cervical cancer, such as adaptive radiotherapy and immunotherapy.

LingYi (Peter) Li and Fritz Ahern join the brachy KBP effort

Peter, a Masters of Computer Science and Engineering student at UCSD, will be focused on deep learning dose prediction. Fritz, a recent physics graduate from UC Berkeley, will work to uncover the underlying sources of data variability that could impact brachytherapy dose predictions.

Dr. Meyers Awarded 5-Year K08 NIH Grant

Assistant Professor Sandra Meyers PhD received a five-year K08 Career Development Award from the National Cancer Institute of the National Institutes of Health. Her research proposal is focused on developing an automated treatment planning pipeline for brachytherapy of cervical cancer using deep learning, and prospectively implementing this tool in the clinic.

Assistant Professor Sandra Meyers PhD was a visiting professor at Yale New Haven Medical Center. She spoke on knowledge-based modeling for brachytherapy to students, fellows and faculty in the Department of Therapeutic Radiology.

Celebration of New Women Health Sciences Faculty

The 6th Annual Celebration of UC San Diego Health New Women Faculty was held on May 10th, 2018 at the UCSD Faculty Club. Over 100 New Women Faculty were introduced from a wide variety of Health Science Departments ranging from Anesthesiology to Surgery. Dr. Mundt, Professor and Department Chair, had the pleasure of introducing RMAS’ newest female faculty Sandra Meyers PhD , a research –focused medical physicist based in La Jolla. The evening featured three keynote speakers: Pamela Mellon PhD, Vice Chair for Research Department of Obstretrics, Gynecology and Reproductive Sciences, Barbara Parker MD, Professor of Medicine and Senior Deputy Director of the Moores Cancer Center and Angela Scioscia MD, UCSD Chief Medical Officer.
