Casey Bojechko Lab

Dr. Bojechko's research focus is on improving external beam radiotherapy treatment quality and patient safety. Specifically, he is interested in exploiting electronic portal imaging to ensure proper deliver of daily treatment as well as potentially triggering the need to adapt treatment based on changes in the patient and/or tumor. Electronic portal imaging devices (EPID) are nearly universally available in modern radiotherapy clinics making his applicable to nearly all centers worldwide.

In vivo portal dosimetry performance

This study quantifies the ability of electronic portal imaging device (EPID) dosimetry used during treatment to detect variation that occur throughout the treatment course. In vivo EPID dosimetry could detect relatively small variations in overall dose, systematic MLC shifts and changes in patient habitus.

Effectiveness of EPID dosimetry

This study evaluated the effectiveness of detecting error with a “defense in depth” system composed of EPID dosimetry and a software-based system composed of rules-based and Bayesian network verifications. This system is capable of detecting a large majority of incidence.
