Radiation Medicine & Applied Sciences

Founded in 2006, the Department adopted the name Department of Radiation Medicine & Applied Sciences (RMAS) in 2012 to reflect its bipartite missions of Clinical Medicine and Academic Research. Over the years, RMAS has realized unprecedented growth in its faculty as well as in its clinical, research, and education programs. Today, RMAS is a major academic Department within the UC San Diego School of Medicine.

 

Moores Cancer Center

UC San Diego Moores Cancer Center (MCC) is one of just 50 NCI-Designated Comprehensive Cancer Centers in the country and the only one in the greater San Diego region. Comprised of over 230 clinicians and researchers including 16 National Academy of Science members, MCC has over $140M in Extra-Mural Grant Funding and its faculty publish over 1,000 journal articles each year.

 

UC San Diego 

Founded in 1960, UC San Diego occupies over 2,000 acres along the beautiful California coastline. Comprised of approximately 1,400 faculty, the University offers over 200 undergraduate and graduate programs, enrolling nearly 30,000 undergraduate and 8,500 graduate students. UC San Diego School of Medicine includes over 475 medical students and 780 residents (including 16 RMAS residents). School of Medicine faculty are ranked #1 in national and federal research funding per faculty.

 

UC San Diego Health System

UC San Diego Health is a 2-hospital system, comprised of the Jacobs Medical Center in La Jolla and the Hillcrest Medical Center near downtown. The system is affiliated with multiple other hospitals and centers throughout the greater San Diego region, including the San Diego VA Hospital, Rady Children’s Hospital, Eisenhower Medical Center, and the California Proton Center. Cancer services are based primarily in La Jolla with clinics throughout San Diego including in Encinitas, Vista, and South Bay. A new Hillcrest Cancer Center is under development.
