Current Research Studies

All lab operations have been affected by coronavirus, and we are following guidelines set forth by the university to ensure everyone’s safety. There are two studies in the lab currently:

  1. Neurofeedback training for individuals with schizophrenia (SCZ) or schizoaffective disorder (SAD). Subjects are randomized to either active or placebo treatment, and neither the subject nor the personnel working with the subject know group assignment.
This study is active with limited recruitment, by invitation only. To be eligible, subjects must be
    1. Men and women between the ages of 18-65 years, of any race/ethnicity with a diagnosis of SCZ or SAD.
    2. Be able to provide informed consent
    3. Be willing to come to the lab and do paper/pencil memory tests.
    4. Be willing to do computerized memory tests.
    5. Be willing to train using a computer and EEG headset twice a week for 12 weeks.
    6. Be willing to come to a follow-up appointment 4 weeks after completion of study.
    7. Not currently using illicit substances.
    8. Not currently using excessive alcohol.
    9. Not have any medication changes in the past month.

  1. Neurofeedback training for individuals with mild cognitive impairment (MCI). Subjects are randomized to either active or placebo treatment, and neither the subject nor the personnel working with the subject know group assignment.
This study is currently in the planning phases and subjects are not being recruited. Interested men and women diagnosed with MCI between the ages of 50-85 may contact our research coordinator and add their name to our interest list.
