Kristen McCabe, PhD is a clinical psychologist, Professor of Psychological Sciences at the University of San Diego, and Research Scientist at the Child and Adolescent Services Research Center (CASRC). Her research been funded by the U.S. National Institute of Mental Health focuses on documenting youth mental health disparities and their causes, developing and pilot testing a culturally adapted version of Parent Child Interaction Therapy for Mexican American families. She has also been a collaborating investigator on the TWIST project, focused in identifying predictors of cross-cultural cognitive consensus in youth psychotherapy.

Research Focus

Dr. McCabe’s research interest focus on identifying cultural factors that contribute to youth mental health disparities, and developing methods of personalizing evidence based parent training program to increase their utility with families of diverse cultural backgrounds.

Clinical and Teaching Focus

Dr. McCabe teaches a number of clinical psychology courses at the University of San Diego, including Behavior Disorders of Childhood, Methods of Evidence Based Psychotherapy, and Psychological Assessment. She has mentored a number of McNair Scholars and Summer Undergraduate Research Experience students. Dr. McCabe was trained in Parent Child Interaction Therapy by Dr. Sheila Eyberg.
