The Geriatric Psychiatry Fellowship Training Program is a part of the Division of Geriatric Psychiatry within the Department of Psychiatry at UC San Diego. Under the direction of Dilip V. Jeste, M.D., the division focuses on community-based research in middle-aged and elderly people with schizophrenia and other chronic psychotic disorders and successful aging. We are proud of our record of peer-reviewed publications, community outreach, federal and non-federal grants, a growing pool of junior and senior investigators working in this area, and unique and successful training programs. A number of our findings have had a significant impact on the clinical practice and research in the area of study. We believe that our division has become a national and international resource for studies in these areas. Our division provides a research infrastructure to promote investigations that improve real-world practice. Additionally, the San Diego VA Health System functions as an integral site for the Division and Fellowship Program, including research and clinical care within interprofessional programs such as Hospice and Palliative Care and Home Based Primary Care.
