Eligibility & Application Process


  • The applicant must have completed an ACGME-accredited psychiatry residency program or an RCPSC-accredited or CFPC-accredited psychiatry residency program (in Canada)
  • The applicant must have a California Medical License or be eligible for a California Physician Training License (apply for prior to starting fellowship).
  • The applicant must participate in the NRMP Match

Applications for training in the Consultation-Liaison Psychiatry fellowship program must include:
  • The Academy of Consultation-Liaison Psychiatry Common Application for Consultation-Liaison Psychiatry Fellowship form.
  • Curriculum Vitae
  • Personal Statement
  • ACGME Milestone Verification Level of Competency from Residency Program
  • Three letters of recommendation, one from the Psychiatry Training Director documenting that the applicant meets the eligibility criterion (competency via Milestones assessment and good standing)
  • Copy of medical school diploma and/or transcripts
  • Copies of state medical license(s), DEA certificate, board certifications, when applicable
  • USMLE scores, steps 1, 2, and 3
  • ECFMG certificate if applicable

Applicants to the Consultation-Liaison Psychiatry Fellowship Program who are not citizens of the United States may pursue postgraduate medical education while under the sponsorship of the Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates (ECFMG) holding a J-1 visa. (This does not apply to individuals who hold permanent resident status in this country.) The University does not offer H-1B visas to trainees. The applicant must meet eligibility criteria (as above).
