Emergency Room and Crisis Stabilization Unit
Each first year fellow has a 2.5 month rotation at Rady Children’s Hospital Emergency Department and Crisis Stabilization Unit. Fellows participate in Psychiatry team rounds in the emergency department twice daily. The attending physician is always available for consultation. Fellows participate in performing clinical evaluations, treatment planning, emergency and crisis intervention, medication management and discharge planning. When patients are admitted to the Crisis Stabilization Unit, the fellow acts as the primary physician for the patient and coordinates care with the patient’s family, outpatient providers and involved agencies. Treatments include supportive psychotherapy, safety planning, psychoeducation and medication management.
