How to Apply to the UCSD Psychiatry Residency Program

Psychiatry Electives information can be obtained by emailing: visitingstudents@ucsd.edu 

To submit an application, please complete the following steps:

  1. Complete the NRMP match enrollment materials
  2. Complete the ERAS application (deadline 12/1/2019)
  3. Your application should have the following information :
    • a personal statement (1 page)
    • CV/Resume
    • a dean's letter
    • a transcript of your medical school grades
    • USMLE examination scores (COMLEX Accepted)
    •  three letters of recommendation (we suggest at least one from psychiatry)
 International Medical School Graduates:
Graduates of international medical schools, located outside of the United States, Puerto Rico and Canada, are eligible to pursue accredited postgraduate training programs in this state when they have met the prerequisites established by the Medical Board of California (MBC).  UCSD, Dept. of Psychiatry does not offer observerships.  U.S. Clinical experience is preferred within the last 2 years.  USMLE Scores (first attempts only).

Following the MBC’s review of the applicant’s application material, the applicant will be advised in writing whether he/she has satisfied the requirements of this state and whether he/she is eligible to commence postgraduate training in California.

After you are invited for an interview, please indicate your choice of interview days by contacting Tracy Riley or Keisha Moore, our Program Administrators, via email or phone (619) 471-0209.  You will receive confirmation of your interview date shortly afterwards.  If you are unable to attend your interview day for any reason, please call to cancel as soon as possible, as we usually have a waiting list for our interviews.
