Kumud K. Singh, Ph.D.
Principal Investigator

Dr. Singh is interested in examining the human innate/adaptive immunity interface involved in the susceptibility, pathogenesis and disease progression of infectious diseases. One area of focus is the study of innate immune complement system in HIV related neuroinflammation neurocognitive impairment and neuronal immunity (multiple sclerosis) and aging (Alzheimer’s diseases). Dr. Singh’s research areas of specific interest include 1)Innate/adaptive immunity interface in central nervous system infections and neurodegeneration; 2) Host genetic variations in susceptibility and disease progression of HIV infection to AIDS and neuroAIDS; 3) Pharmacogenomics of drug responses and drug toxicity in treatment of infectious diseases; 4) Rapid detection and diagnosis of infectious agents. Dr. Singh is credited with establishing the real-time PCR gene expression, gene quantitation and genotyping platform at Pediatrics Infectious Diseases. Dr. Singh participates in several host genetic studies in national and international projects funded by NIH. Long term goals for Dr. Singh’s lab include identification of novel host factors and infectious agent targets for the development of custom-made individualized therapeutic strategies
