Good Laboratory Practice (GLP) and Quality Control (QC)

Good Laboratory Practices and Quality Control at the UCSD Clinical Pharmacology and Assay Laboratory

Our lab operates according to Good Laboratory Practices (GLP). These regulations were established by the FDA to ensure the quality of laboratory testing procedures, documentation, laboratory spaces, equipment and reagents. All procedures (SOP's available upon request) and methods are readily available in the laboratory and are reviewed regularly. The laboratory participates annually in:

  • site inspections conducted by an external Quality Assurance Unit;
  • blinded external quality control testing to ensure accurate testing in comparison with laboratories nationwide.

In addition, laboratory safety is ensured through biannual inspections of laboratory spaces, equipment and procedures conducted by UCSD Environmental Health and Safety (EH&S),, laboratory staff and external companies.

The laboratory follows an established Safety Program and approved procedures for handling Blood Borne Pathogens which comply with all State and Federal regulations. All staff is trained by UCSD EH&S in emergency safety procedures and in the use of Personal Safety Equipment.
