Principal Investigator

Joshi Shweta

Shweta Joshi, PhD is currently an Assistant Professor at UC San Diego Moores Cancer Center. Dr. Joshi received her Ph.D. in Biochemistry from Central Drug Research Institute, India. Following the completion of her Ph.D., Dr. Joshi joined postdoc at the University of California, San Diego. During the postdoctoral fellowship, her research was focused on finding novel signaling pathways in macrophages that mediate tumor growth and immunosuppression. In 2019, Dr. Joshi joined as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Pediatrics, UCSD.

Dr. Joshi’s lab is focused on understanding the cellular and molecular mechanisms that regulate the recruitment and activation of immunosuppressive myeloid cells in solid tumors. She identified innovative approaches to convert pro-tumor macrophages into anti-tumor macrophages and has also discovered novel targeted agents that have been translated into early phase clinical trials for the treatment of cancer patients.  Her lab uses multiple advanced strategies (RNA-seq, ATAC-seq, single cell transcriptomics, immune phenotyping, system biology approaches), human patient samples and genetic mouse models of cancer to study myeloid cell interactions with other immune cells and developing tumors.
