Debashis Sahoo, PhD

Debashis Sahoo, PhD joined as an assistant professor in the division of Genome Information Sciences at the Department of Pediatrics at University of California, San Diego, CA USA (UCSD). He is also affiliated with the Department of Computer Science and Engineering and a participating faculty in the Bioinformatics and Systems Biology graduate program at UCSD.​ Prior to his arrival at UCSD, Dr. Sahoo was a Siebel Fellow at the Institute of Stem Cell Biology and Regenerative Medicine and Instructor of Pathology at Stanford University, Stanford, CA, USA where he worked with leading scientists including Prof. Irv Weissman, Prof. Joe Lipsick, Prof. Matt van de Rijn, and Prof. Michael Clarke.

Dr. Sahoo received his MS and PhD in Electrical Engineering at Stanford University, and BTech in Computer Science and Engineering at IIT-Kharagpur.  He has several publications in the area of computational biology and formal verification.  He finished his doctoral work under the NCI-funded Integrative Cancer Biology Program at Stanford with his advisor Prof. David Dill and co-advisor Prof.  Sylvia Plevritis. He has used Boolean logic to understand the process of differentiation in normal and cancer tissues. His research interests include systems biology, bioinformatics, Boolean analysis, genetics, immunology, cancer and stem cell biology.​
