Dr. Susan Phillips is an assistant professor in the UCSD Department of Pediatrics, and works both as a basic researcher in the laboratory of Dr. Robert Henry and as a clinician in the Division of Endocrinology and Metabolism at the Veterans Administration Medical Center.
Before joining UCSD in 2001, Dr. Phillips completed a residency in pediatrics and a fellowship in pediatric endocrinology at the Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore, Maryland. Following her clinical training, she completed a basic research fellowship in diabetes within the Diabetes Branch of the National Institute of Diabetes, Digestive and Kidney Disorders at the National Institutes of Health in Bethesda, Maryland.
Dr. Phillips is a member of the Lawson-Wilkins Pediatric Endocrine Society, the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, the Endocrine Society and the American Diabetes Association.
Dr. Phillips’ current research involves a translational approach to the study of obesity, specifically looking at fat hormones and their influence on the body's response to insulin.
