Child Weight Management

FRESH-DOSE (Family, Responsibility, Education, Support, Health—Dual Options for Sustained Effectiveness) ​​ ​


Ages: 7-12

The Family, Responsibility, Education, Support, Health—Dual Options for Sustained Effectiveness (FRESH—DOSE) study is a program for children ages 7-12 with overweight and obesity, and their parent. The treatment program is 6 months and combines guided self-help family-based behavioral therapy. Families also attend assessment appointments and will be compensated for their time and effort.

ReFRESH (Reinforced Enhanced Family, Responsibility, Education, Support & Health) ​​ ​

Ages: 7-12

The Reinforced Enhanced Family, Responsibility, Education, Support & Health study is a program for children ages 7-12 with overweight and obesity, and their parent. The treatment program is 6 months and focuses on weight-loss, healthy eating strategies, and skills for effective parenting and behavior management. Families also attend assessment appointments and will be compensated for their time and effort.

GOTDoc​​ ​


Ages: 5-12

GOTDoc is a 6 month program providing family-based behavioral therapy for children ages 5-12 with overweight and obesity. Families that are patients at Children’s Primary Care Medical Group in Chula Vista or Escondido can be enrolled in this study by asking their primary care physicians to send a referral to CHEAR.

SCNIP (Southern California Nutrition Incentive Program)

Southern California Nutrition Incentive Program is a multi-tiered program, which includes fruit and vegetable rebate financial incentives, promotions, and nutrition education and obesity prevention programming in a retail setting for SNAP participants who shop at eligible Northgate Markets in Southern California.

PACIFIC (Providing Adults Creative Inspiration for Ideal Choices)​​ ​

PACIFIC is a program for overweight adults between the ages of 18-65.  All ​​participants will be asked to ​participate in a 12 month program focused on improving eating habits and reducing binge eating and overeating.  The total duration of the study is 2 years. ​Participants will receive some compensation for their time and effort.
