Combined Internal Medicine/Pediatrics Residency Training Program

The combined Medicine-Pediatric Residency Program at the University of California, San Diego, is designed to train a group of physicians who will be well-equipped to meet the challenges of our changing health care system. The program not only provides a broad background in both Internal Medicine and Pediatric suited to primary care, but also engenders a depth of training equally suited to subspecialty training. The well-established UCSD Internal Medicine and Pediatric Residency programs provide exposure to a variety of patients from diverse cultural and socioeconomic backgrounds. Training is balanced with varied primary care experiences as well as immersion in strong academic tertiary medicine. Residents alternate every three months between the pediatric and medicine services, and assume graduated responsibilities over the four-year course of training. The graduates from this program are highly skilled at managing a wide spectrum of clinical problems encountered in the care of pediatric and adult populations.
