UC San Diego's Department of Pediatrics has three Chief Residents for the 2018-2019 academic year – Drs. Ashley Rae Martinez, Isabella Niu, and Austin Weiss.
The chief resident year is an additional year dedicated to working with the administration and the residents to improve the program, resident education, and resident well-being.
Ashley Rae Martinez, MD was born and raised in Las Vegas, and came to UCSD for pediatric residency after completing undergrad at William's College and medical school at Emory University. She enjoys documentaries, classic rock, and reading.
Isabella Niu, MD has been at UCSD since medical school, completing her med-peds residency recently and deciding to extend her stay as a pediatric chief resident. She has enjoyed her time in San Diego for the past 8-9 years and loves exploring the amazing restaurants, hikes, and dog parks here.
Austin Weiss, MD is from Palm Dessert, went to Duke for undergrad, and Yale for medical school before coming back to the West Coast for Pediatric Residency at UCSD. He loves surfing, biking, grilling, and fantasy football.
