Requirements for International Medical Graduates who wish to apply for Postgraduate Training in the UCSD Pediatric Residency Program
- Postgraduate Training Authorization Letter (PTAL):
The requirements for International Medical Graduates through the Medical Board of California will change effective January 1, 2020. During the 2019-2020 application season we will still require the PTAL for all International Medical Graduates as part of the application for our program. The applicant must submit the PTAL through ERAS with the remainder of their completed application to our residency program before the November 1st application deadline.
- Visa Requirement:
Graduates of international medical schools, who are not US citizens or do not hold Permanent Resident status in this country, will need to secure a J-1 visa. We only sponsor the J-1 visa through the Graduate Medical Education Department.
- ECFMG Certification:
International medical school graduates must be certified by the Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates (ECFMG).
All International Medical Graduates must take USMLE Step 1 and Step 2 and report the scores with their application through ERAS.
We do not offer observerships.
