  • Dr. Clark Crane

    Dr. Clark Crane

    2020-2024
    Dr. Crane is completing a fellowship in both adult and pediatric nephrology at UCSD. Following medical school at Loma Linda University, he completed combined residency training in internal medicine and pediatrics at the University of Utah and Primary Children’s Hospital. In his final year, he also served as the program’s chief resident. His clinical interests include kidney transplantation, childhood nephrotic syndrome, and the transition of adolescent patients from pediatric to adult nephrology care. His fellowship research project focuses on understanding the impact of donor/recipient pair T cell epitope mismatches on kidney transplant cellular rejection and other outcomes. 
  • Dr. Robin Miller

    Dr. Robin Miller

     2021-2024
    Dr. Miller is a pediatric nephrology fellow at Rady Children’s Hospital-San Diego. She graduated from the Zucker School of Medicine at Hofstra Northwell and completed her pediatric residency at Loma Linda University Children’s Hospital. She is most interested in general nephrology, with a research focus in pediatric hypertension. 
  • Dr. Katrina Epperson

    Dr. Katrina Epperson

    2021-2024
    Katrina Epperson, MD is a pediatric nephrology fellow at Rady Children’s Hospital-San Diego. She graduated from​ the University of Washington School of Medicine and completed her pediatric residency at the University of California- San Diego/Rady Children’s Hospital. She worked as a pediatric hospitalist for 3 years prior to returning to fellowship. Her main areas of interest and research focus are kidney transplantation and critical care nephrology. She is currently pursuing microbiome research with an emphasis on kidney transplantation. Dr. Epperson also is very interested in education and loves teaching. 

Past Fellows:

Dr. Caitlin Carter completed her Fellowship in our program in December 2012. She started a part-time position with us in January 2013. Dr. Sujana Gunta completed her Fellowship in our program in September 2013 and started a part-time position with us in January 2014. Dr. Dean Nourbakhsh and Dr. Elliot Perens completed their Fellowship in our program in June 2015. They started faculty positions with us in July 2015.  We have applied to the NIH for T32 fellowship training grant funding in association with the Internal Medicine Nephrology Division at UCSD. Dr. Erika Allred completed her Pediatric Nephrology fellowship in 2022 and started a clinical faculty position with us in July 2022.​

Nadine Benador, MD

Caitlin Carter, MD

  • Clinical Director of Pediatric Nephrology: oversees and manages all clinical operations, productivity and performance reviews for all clinical providers
  • Guides and manages Quality Incentive Project for Division of Nephrology
  • Actively involved in training medical students, pediatrics resident and fellows in Nephrology
  • Part of the clinical teaching service for inpatient and outpatient pediatric training for medical students

Elizabeth Ingulli, MD

  • Medical Director of the Pediatric Renal Transplant Program
  • Actively involved in training medical students, pediatric residents and fellows in renal transplantation
  • Participates in clinical teaching for medical students, pediatric resident trainees, nephrology fellows, and pharmacy students; participates in didactic lectures for medical students, pediatric resident trainees, and nephrology fellows in general nephrology.
  • Participates in didactic lectures to PICU, IMU and clinic nursing staff in the Management of Pediatric Transplant Patient and Transplant Immunology, The Basics
  • She won the Resident Teaching Award for the second time in 2015.

Robert Mak, MD, PhD

  • Actively involved in training medical students, pediatric residents and fellows in Nephrology;  An average of 12 pediatric residents per year elect to spend a month in nephrology, and between three and four medical students a year take the nephrology elective.
  • Part of the clinical teaching service for inpatient and outpatient pediatric training for medical students
  • Participates in clinical and didactic teaching for medical students and pediatric resident trainees who elect to spend a month in nephrology.
  • Member of the Education Committee of the American Society of Pediatric Nephrology
  • Editorial Board, American Academy of Pediatrics, PREP Nephrology, 2013-present
  • Mentors fellows and visiting scholars in basic research in his laboratory.  Dr. Wei Ding, a Visiting Scholar in Dr. Mak's laboratory, received the WSPN Fellow Research Award in September, 2014.

Noureddin Nourbakhsh, DO

  • Actively involved in training medical students, pediatric residents and fellows in nephrology
