MEDICAL FELLOWS

The hospitalists are the primary teaching faculty for UCSD pediatric hospital medicine fellows. Teaching instruction modalities include daily bedside rounds, formal curriculum didactics, longitudinal block sessions, and hands-on experiences such as simulation, use and care of medical devices, and participation on medical staff meetings. Hospitalists serve as fellowship directors, mentors to fellows, and project chairs.

MEDICAL RESIDENTS

The hospitalists are the primary teaching faculty for all residents rotating on the RCHSD  inpatient teaching service. All five local training institutions, including UCSD, Balboa Naval, Camp Pendleton, Scripps, and Family Health Centers send their trainees to RCHSD for pediatric training. Teaching instruction is given through both formal didactics and daily bedside sessions. Additionally, the hospitalists serve as block session coordinators and instructors, rotation directors, pediatric resident mentors including for longitudinal Resident Academic Projects, and contribute to the residency selection process.
