pediatric hospital medicine faculty

The Hospital Medicine program began in 1978, to serve three main functions: caring for unassigned patients, supervising housestaff on the inpatient service, and providing a user-friendly service for primary care providers who were unable to follow their inpatients. Since its inception, the Division has grown to 12 physicians and two fellows. The Hospital Medicine practitioners provide inpatient care at RCHSD, Palomar Medical Center, and Sharp Grossmont Hospital, all located in the San Diego area.

Division Chief

Erin Fisher, MD, FAAP

About the Division of Hospital Medicine: Our hospitalists are the primary teaching faculty for all medical students and residents rotating on the RCHSD inpatient teaching service. All five local training institutions, including the Balboa Naval and Camp Pendleton Medical Centers send their trainees to RCHSD for pediatric training. Teaching instruction is given through both formal didactic and daily bedside sessions.

Additionally, the hospitalists serve as pediatric resident advisors, fellowship directors, conference coordinators, rotation directors and participants in the pediatric residency selection process.

Our Fellowship Program

The Hospital Medicine Fellowship Program provides clinical and scholarly training with the goal of developing future hospitalists and academic leaders in the field. The clinical and research opportunities are unparalleled, and San Diego is an exciting city with an inviting year-round climate.
