Research Activities

The Division of Emergency Medicine is committed to research. Current research interests are wide and include the study of infectious diseases (urinary tract infections, meningitis, and bacteremia), sickle cell disease, Kawasaki disease, head trauma, and innovations in ED operations among others. Funding for research has come from intramural and extramural sources such as the NIH (Kawasaki disease). Kawasaki disease research has been highly successful with collaboration among clinical researchers in our division (Dr. Kanegaye in particular), basic science researchers, and Dr. Jane Burns, an internationally recognized expert. Members of the group have also participated in large multicenter collaborative studies. Members of the division have continued to publish manuscripts in prestigious scientific journals.
